The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival

Paying homage to a borough and a music genre with bold visuals

I was approached to provide the art direction and visual identity for the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival’s 10th anniversary. It was a chance to lead a project celebrating my hometown and a music genre I grew up with. I was in charge of creative, overhauling their website and social media channels and designed accompanying merchandise.

OFFICAL POSTERS BHHF

  • I wanted to incorporate something that was timeless and quintessential to being in Brooklyn and was inspired by the colors of the train line I grew up taking, the Q. I was also inspired by the wordmark from Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing and incorporated that look and feel into the anniversary logo. The poster was also inspired by one of my favorite Pentagram posters.

  • Raekwon was the headliner but there were a few exciting surprise guests: J Cole, Mac Miller, and Jay-Z. The event was extremely successful and the merchandise sold out.
